The Stables Collection
The horses I paint are the horses I live with. I have been painting them for more than twenty years, and I paint nothing else.
I am self-taught. I started at seventeen, making my own canvases and selling them at the Port Douglas markets in Far North Queensland. I still prime my own linen by hand, still mix every colour myself, and still work alone. What has changed is the scale. The paintings now run to five metres, and I built a private gallery to hold them.
Lined up along that wall they look like a stable. That is where the collection gets its name, and everything I have made is in it. You are welcome to look around.

He stood at Arrowfield for nineteen seasons and changed Australian breeding while he was there. Three times champion sire, one hundred and sixty-three stakes winners. I bred and sold a Redoute’s Choice colt through the Magic Millions myself, so painting him meant something to me personally.

Nicole is an Australian equestrian artist and breeder, painting from her studio on the family's Gold Coast horse stud. Her large-scale equine portraits have shown at HOTA Gallery and featured live on Nine Network's Melbourne Cup broadcast. She takes a limited number of private commissions each year.
Nicole Slater's debut solo exhibition, Rose Gold, opened at HOTA Gallery on the Gold Coast in December 2025 — presented ahead of the Magic Millions Carnival and opened by the Gold Coast's Mayor and Magic Millions co-owner Katie Page. Her work has featured live on Nine Network's Melbourne Cup Carnival broadcast from the Flemington Birdcage two years running, and she has served as a Magic Millions Gold Coast ambassador for close to a decade. Nicole's paintings have been covered by Vogue Australia, The Australian Financial Review, A Current Affair, and Channel Seven, and are held in private collections across Australia, the United States, and the Middle East.
